Discover Our Unique Approach

Reggio Emilia Method and Creative Curriculum

Children have all kinds of potential and abilities. In order to bring out and bring out these potential, we create the foundation to nurture children to become global talent who can think and act independently and play an active role in the world.

Our school has introduced two advanced and practical educational methods: the Reggio Emilia Method and the Creative Curriculum. These are curricula designed to help children naturally acquire the skills they will need for the future, such as independence, creativity, sociality, and logical thinking.

What is the Reggio Emilia Approach?

Reggio Emilia Approach

This educational method, which was developed in Reggio Emilia, Italy in the 1940s, is based on the idea that “children have 100 words” and regards children as creative and intelligent beings.
The aim is to enhance sensitivity, inquisitiveness and communication skills through art, nature and dialogue, and respects the individuality and expression of each child. Teachers do not act as instructors but as “partners who learn together,” and children deepen their learning through dialogue and project activities.

What is the Creative Curriculum?

Creative Curriculum

This comprehensive early childhood education program was developed based on American educational research and places emphasis on children’s play-centered learning. The aim is to foster a balanced development of language, cognition, social skills, and physical development through activities in daily life (block play, pretend play, reading aloud, nature observation, etc.).

The learning environment is designed according to the child’s age and developmental stage, and is devised so that children can choose for themselves and focus on activities that interest them. Another major feature is that the evaluation does not compare children, but focuses on the child’s own growth.

Greetings

I have lived in Queensland, Australia for over 20 years, mainly working in the education industry. During that time, I realized that it is difficult for us Japanese people to use the English we learned in Japan abroad, and that when we are surrounded by people from other countries, we are unable to express our opinions in words even when asked, and we end up just going along with the people around us. Even when we become adults, it is difficult to change our opinions even when asked.

After returning to Japan, she worked at an international preschool with the hope that Japanese children would one day be able to express their opinions in proper English on an equal footing with people from all over the world. After that, she opened our school, Akasaka International School (AIS), on May 1st, 2025.

Naomi

I lived in Australia for over 20 years. When I returned to Japan, I wanted to work in an international school teaching Japanese children English so they can communicate with people from all over the world. I get a great sense of satisfaction watching kids learning English. I look forward to meeting you at our school.
